About Gray

 A Little History and Credibility

I am a 25 year old who has a love for history and an eye for art. I'm a Latina and a descendant from Arab and Pascua Yaqui blood. I lived all my life in LA county.

I'm an Art Historian and self-taught artist. In High School I attended Ryman Arts and was given a full scholarship over $2,000 worth in art supplies and free classes where I studied under professional artists such as Manny Cosentino and Sergio Rebia that helped build my portfolio.  I graduated from Mt. SAC with an Associate's Degree in Art History and from CSUSB with a BA in Art History and in the future I hope to attend a Graduate program to obtain my Master's in Art Conservation.

I had an art teacher in middle shool, Mrs. Cavanaugh, who really changed the way I viewed art. She  was always a strong believer that if you want something realistic  then just take a picture and instead use art to paint something we will never be able to see, for example: all four sides of a chair into one image. This distressed me because I had always strived for realism. She also taught me a lot about Picasso and I took a liking to him because the man was a realism prodigy and he was so bored he started venturing into cubism which I have to admit  I don't really understand cubism or even like it but I very much admired his ability to get into that head space. Now I try to create my own worlds onto canvas  and I try to not be afraid of crossing boundaries. I hope you can see this in my art.

Watch me present my most recent research as of May 2024 on the how the Guadalupe is used in LA based art here.

I began college with a drive to have a career in the field of mathematics. I Found something I  was good at and thought that is what i have to do in college but quickly m counselor noticed whenever I had a chance to take a history course I did it. I just had a natural love for historical knowledge which I probably should've noticed with all the historical documentaries I watch, Historical Fiction I read, and even the historical garments I became a knowledgable in, I even had a history book about Mathematics where I learne about Renee Descartes and his contributions. Although I loved the STEM field and was a math major for two years, once I learned Art History was a real major I made the switch immediately.

In my hometown of Pomona, I try to invest time in the great art community. I'm lucky to have grown up with a place like Downtown Pomona where all things seem to be available such as live music from local bands, art shows/galleries, life drawing classes with real nude models, local vendors, burlesque shows, food, and even the local Art School opens up their doors for art walks.

My work is very color filled most of the time. There is no such thing more versatile than color. The way a shade changes the way you look at it once it sits next to (an)other color(s) can change the way your brain feels about it. Color is talkative, it's aggressive, it's lovely, it's stimulating.

I learned to work with acrylic paint, color pencil, crayon, clay, papier-mâché, and even fabric. I soon hope to work with tattooing, wood carving, stained glass, and resin molds. Generally what I lay out on canvas or paper is a replica of pictures I see in my head and will not stop pestering my imagination until I bring it to life.

Enjoy my work!
